|The municipality of Güímar, established as a result of the Conquest as a regional municipal mayor's office dependent on La Laguna and with initial capital in Candelaria, has experienced numerous processes of segregation in its extensive jurisdiction during its long history. The population, at first concentrated almost exclusively in the towns of Güímar and Candelaria, began to disperse, forming numerous nuclei between the Barranco Hondo and the Barranco de Icor.
As time passed, these new entities became aware of towns, with their peculiar characteristics, and began to consider their independence and the creation of new municipal districts. To achieve their objective, they prepared an extensive report, in which they presented their solid arguments, which was sent in the middle of that same year 1858 to the civil governor.
